Be the Change You Wish to See in The World
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." We humans tend to think of change as something that happens outside of ourselves. Gandhi's words suggest that there is a correlation between who we are and the world we create around us. Be the change you wish to see. Does that mean that if we become who we wish to be, we participate in creating a better world?
Is change a static condition that happens in isolated incidences, or is it on a continuum? Perhaps the continuum begins inside of us and becomes the fodder to alter the world around us -- shall we suggest that this transformation is an essential activity in the world, and that personal change contributes to the state of affairs in the universe. Perhaps that is too grandiose a thought. But doesn't it intrigue us to think that the smallest change in our hearts affects the universe, and affects our place in the world along the change continuum of becoming and doing?
Is it just "fancy" to suggest that who we are, and who we become, has an effect on the world and on the way we live in that world? Imagine a world where each individual seeks to maximize his/her personal potential -- isn't that a world we all desire?
Counseling and psychotherapy proposes to help people grow, and to achieve personal change and the power that contributes to a better world for you and for me.
